Grave Digger’s Apple Orchard Cocktail

This Grave Digger’s Apple Orchard Cocktail will give you the chills and warm your insides all at the same time! The warmth of the whiskey, the crisp, sweet apple cider, and the most unique, rich, and complex vermouth. A boo-zy brew that will prepare you for those festive and spooky nights!

When it comes to creating recipes, drinks are by far my most favorite to photograph. Especially holiday ones! And Halloween happens to be crazy fun with its endless connections and spooky and frightful names.

And I think you’re going to howl over this lively libation.

It’s a lip-smacking cross between a Manhattan and an old-fashioned with a few twists. Punt e Mes, an Italian vermouth, is herby and spicy, and the maraschino liqueur is sweet and nutty. Of course, the apple cider adds sweet and tangy juiciness.

It tastes like you’re biting into a spiked apple!!

Sure, you may not have these two liqueurs on hand, but they are sooo worth the trip to the liquor store; plus, they have a long shelf life and can be used in countless ways in drinks. And inexpensive to boot!

And while this spirited cocktail is perfect for one, you can serve it as a “punch” for a crowd- either way, it’s perfect for welcoming in the spooky season.

What The Heck Is Punt E Mes

I only recently discovered this Italian vermouth from my daughter and son-in-law. It’s sweet while tasting bitter and has a rich, dark hue. It has herbs and baking spices, with notes of caramel and orange- perfect for fall and winter cocktails. And when you smell it, it has a plummy, raisin-like fragrance. You gotta try this!

Ingredient Notes And Substitutions

Ingredients for a grave digger's apple orchard cocktail

Whiskey ~ use your favorite brand.

Punt E Mes ~ without a doubt, this liqueur is the star of the cocktail, but you could substitute a good sweet vermouth.

Luxardo Maraschino ~ is a cherry-flavored liqueur made from Marasca cherries. Cherry Heering and Kirsch are good substitutions. Most liquor stores carry it, as well as the Punt E Mes.

Apple cider ~ Don’t go cheap here; A good apple cider will make all the difference. It’s dark and richer in flavor.

How To Use Dry Ice

Dry ice is safe and easy to use when handled properly, not to mention a fun and festive way to serve up drinks and cocktails. I was super nervous before I started using dry ice, and I definitely wanted to do a little research first.
