Witchy Brew Cocktail

This boozy brew will have your guests howling for more. A concoction made with rose, whiskey, and grapefruit juice. A magical and moody cocktail just in time for the spooky season.

Heads up, Witches! This gal on the broom loves whiskey, and this witchy brew cocktail has whiskey AND rose, which sounds a little odd, I know, but you gotta give it a try.. In fact, my trifecta of beverages is wine, whiskey, and water. Coffee is a given, lol. Have you ever tried white sangria? a mixture of gin and white wine doesn’t sound great, but it tasted pretty good; however, gin is not my friend.

Enough of the boozy babble. I find that Halloween is one of those holidays that people totally get into, or it’s not a big deal. I’m somewhere in between. I love all the costumes, food, and fun, but I’ve never been a Halloween party person, nor do I do a lot of decorating.

I grew up rarely living in homes where we had trick-or-treaters lol; we lived on large properties or off the beaten path. My parents would take my brother and me to residential areas to get our bags of treats. What’s your take on Halloween?

As I write this post, I’m at our house in the south of Baja, Mexico, so this year, we are celebrating Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). It doesn’t sound festive to me, but hey, being immersed in another country Is fun and different. And, again, no trick or treaters…

My inspiration for the witchy brew cocktail was purely the drink glitter I purchased and because I have never created a halloween cocktail before. I noticed that quite a few of these themed cocktails have gin or vodka, and I wanted something different. I had an open bottle of rose, so whiskey was my hard liquor of choice. The grapefruit juice for some freshness, and the simple syrup for sweetness. And, of course, the purple food coloring and gold shimmer create a fantastic effect!

I will say that the prominent taste is grapefruit juice, which can make this drink sneak up on you! By all means, cut back on the juice if you choose to.

What Makes A Great Cocktail?

Quality ingredients! I’m not a pro or a mixologist, and I will always say don’t go cheap but don’t break the bank either. I always look to the experts when trying something I’m unfamiliar with. Youre local speacialty stores always have knowledgeable people that can help you make a great choice.

For this witchy brew cocktail The whiskey I typically use is Woodford, Elija Creek, or Bullit. Usually 30-50$ for a large bottle, but it will last a long time…my house not so much, I have a lot of whiskey lovers in my family! The rose can be in the 10-12$ bottle range. Trader Joe’s has a great selection.

Use fresh grapefruit juice. I had a pink grapefruit on hand ( I think they are a little sweeter than a regular one) You don’t need much. The simple syrup you can buy or make it. It’s easy and fast! add equal parts sugar and water to a pan, and simmer until the sugar has completely melted. Let it
